Yes. Foreign nationals can work in the UK when they have immigration status that permits the type of employment they intend to undertake. For many overseas professionals, the Skilled Worker visa is one of the principal employment routes.
You generally need an eligible job from a UK employer approved by the Home Office. The job must satisfy the applicable skill and salary requirements.
Job vacancy ≠ sponsored job ≠ Certificate of Sponsorship ≠ approved visa. These are separate stages and should not be treated as interchangeable.
UK Visa Sponsorship
What Does Visa Sponsorship Mean?
An employer sponsoring qualifying overseas workers generally needs the appropriate Home Office sponsor licence. An approved employer can assign a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) for an eligible role. The worker then uses the sponsorship information in the immigration application.
Check the Employer
Use the official UK register of licensed sponsors. Being on the register confirms sponsorship authorisation; it does not mean the company currently has vacancies or will sponsor every role.
Skilled Worker Route
Applicants normally need an eligible job, approved sponsor, applicable salary, Certificate of Sponsorship, English ability and the other requirements relevant to their circumstances.

Important 2026 Update
Health and Care Worker Visa
The Health and Care Worker route remains relevant for eligible doctors, nurses and other qualifying health professionals.
Overseas care-worker rule change: the immigration route for new care workers and senior care workers applying from overseas closed on 22 July 2025. Transitional provisions exist for certain eligible people already legally in the UK. Spreemkt should not present overseas care-worker sponsorship as a generally open route in 2026.

Confirm eligibility. Read the official route requirements before paying fees.
Obtain prerequisite documentation. This might include a CoS, CAS, endorsement or relationship evidence.
Prepare supporting evidence. Requirements vary by visa category.
Complete the online application. Use the official UK application route.
Pay applicable fees. Some routes also require the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Provide identity information. Follow the instructions for identity verification and biometrics.
Submit evidence and wait for UKVI. Application submission is not approval.
Protect Yourself
Avoid UK Job, Scholarship and Visa Scams
Employment Scams
Be suspicious of guaranteed sponsorship, guaranteed CoS, guaranteed NHS jobs or requests to pay individuals for employment.
Scholarship Scams
Verify awards through the university or scholarship provider and never assume payment guarantees an award.
Visa Scams
No agent or website controls UKVI's decision. Never falsify finances, employment history, qualifications or relationships.
Whether you're searching for sponsored employment, applying for a scholarship, planning to study, joining family or exploring a specialist talent or business route, understand the eligibility requirements before spending money.
